The Kiwanis Club of Hillsdale was organized and officially chartered on September 17, 1924, nine years after the first Kiwanis Club was chartered in Detroit. The first Hillsdale Kiwanis Club was sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Jackson, and had 38 members.
The Hillsdale Kiwanis Club is a member of Michigan Kiwanis Division 11, which also includes clubs from Addison, Adrian, Brooklyn, Hudson, Jackson, Jackson Northwest, Morenci, Onsted and Tecumseh.
The Kiwanis Club of Hillsdale has been honored by having three State Governors: Tom Oliver (1974), William “Bill” VanArsdalen (2006-2007), and Joan VanArsdalen (2009-2010). Fourteen of our members have served as Lieutenant Governor of this division.
The Hillsdale Kiwanis Club sponsors four auxiliary Kiwanis clubs: K-Kids for those 6-12 years old, Builders Club for middle school students, Key Club for high school students, and Aktion Club for adults with developmental disabilities. We have also sponsored Circle K clubs thru Hillsdale College.
